Camera Shy
Finn & Avery’s story.
When an opportunity arises to spend my summer in Las Vegas, I stumble upon my hot new neighbor and his photography studio. We strike a simple deal.
He's the teacher, and I'm his student.
My lesson is learning to love the body I have. In exchange, I'm going to save his business.

Avery and Finn have my heart forever. I loved following Avery on her journey through rediscovering herself, accepting herself, and loving herself. Avery is so relatable and I understood all of her insecurities, as I have them myself. Her story is REAL and RAW. Finn is literally a knight in shining armor (actually, a sexy pirate, rather, hehe ;) ) and has the best intentions but the dirtiest mouth. Avery feels safe exploring and learning with Finn; >>I<< felt safe with Finn while reading.
This book is full of sweet and spicy discoveries and love, and watching these two characters learn how to leave the past behind to continue forward was lovely. There are even a couple twists at the end that had me going WHAT?!?!?!?! Dang, Kay Cove. I see you. :)
This is a favorite 2023 read of mine, and it's a comfort read I'll turn to whenever I need that extra boost to feel good about myself (which I need.... quite often).
This book makes me not want to be camera shy myself anymore, and it REALLY makes me want to do a boudoir photoshoot!! But most of all, this book makes me want to put more effort into loving myself. <3
Lastly, the spazzy fish sidekick Cherry was the BEST.
This book was so good!
I fell in love with Avery's character immediately. I think she is super relatable. She has an amazing job that she kicks butt at, yet she sometimes feels like she isn't good enough. She compares herself to others and always thinks she's not pretty enough or that her body isn't good enough for the world. Her confidence in herself takes an even bigger hit when her boyfriend of 4 years breaks up with her because their relationship was sloppy and basically shames her for the way she handled the stress of building their company. He tells her she's great, but not great enough.
One of Avery's clients asks her for help finding a house sitter, and she jumps at the opportunity to do it herself. She can get away and process her thoughts and be alone for a while.
She then meets Finn, a struggling photographer, and immediately friend zones him because she thinks he's too good-looking. Later, they come to a mutual agreement: he's going to teach her how to have great sex and she is going to help him with his business.
Finn is the type of guy who says what's on his mind and will never say anything he doesn't mean. So when he starts complimenting Avery, telling her she's beautiful, she just brushes him off.
With help from Finn, Avery learns that she is worthy and beautiful. He just helped her see what he sees, and that is a beautiful, smart, down to earth girl who deserves the world.
Finn and Avery aren't that different. He went through an awful time with his ex, and so did she. Avery realizes that even good-looking people like Finn have insecurities, and it takes time and healing to get past some of them.
Avery and Finn are so freaking adorable! I loved how well they mesh together.
